Hour 12--the Boredom Intensifies

It is our second flight. We have already been on a 6 hour plane ride and have spent a good few hours on this one with no time to get our hands on any food during the 2 minute layover. We have started to grow restless, our conversations growing increasingly silly and the irritated glances from the other passengers growing more numerous. Grace and Peter have distributed some oreos out of desperation and Kelly has helped tie us over with some goldfish and rice-krispie treats--strawberry flavored. Alex is feasting on carrots and trail mix, shared with his new-found friends, two burly fishermen, Bob and Ted.

Another flight and several hours later we have arrived in the tiny airport. A girl I sat next to on the final leg, Danielle, says her entire high school has only 700 students. It sounds shockingly small, but looking around this tiny airport I find myself convinced that such a small school would seem large here. Our driver, Seraphima, apologizes for the traffic (we have stopped at a stop light for less than 10 seconds), commenting that they get this "traffic" three times a day, once for each plane that arrives. She also informs us that it is the warmest weekend of the summer and some of the best weather they've had--it is 65 degrees and has been raining constantly since our arrival.

We have just returned from vespers. The chapel is beautiful. Wooden with hanging icons and a tiny chandelier and a charming glow. Seraphima is singing and we try to join her, though have trouble with the traditional, Alskan chants, but I don't really mind since she sounds so beautiful and it seems to fit the atmosphere. We have taken lots of pictures and will gladly share them very soon.

In faith,
Abby

  1. Well,
We are all happy that you arrived safely and, despite the boredom, in good spirits.

Enjoy the Kodiak summer! Looking forward to see more of your posts.
